(i)      Living in a hygienic environment.

Ans.  The three reasons for feeling sick and visiting a doctor are:

(i)           having diarrhoea (loose-motions),

(ii)        having headache, shivering, and fever,

(iii)     having a wound with pus.

Yes, we would go to the doctor if only one of the above three symptoms were present, we still would have to consult a doctor. It is so because all three symptoms made us uncomfortable and cause further damage to the body sometimes due to the attack of some disease.

 

Q.2  In which of the following cases do you think the long-term effects on your health are likely to be most unpleasant?

         (a) If you get jaundice, (b) If you get lice, (c) If you get acne, why?

Ans.In the case of jaundice. Because lice can be treated/removed easily. Similarly, acne is a minor problem but jaundice may become a chronic disease and requires a long time incomplete recovery.

Ans. We are advised to take bland and nourishing food when we are sick because it helps in strengthening the immune system and provides nourishment to the body for the recovery of wear and tear and fighting infection. Ans. The different means by which infectious disease spread air, water & food are direct contact, sexual contact, vectors

i.    The air carries bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens

ii.Contaminated food and water contain disease-causing pathogens.

iii.   Some kind of fungal infections and skin diseases spread through direct physical contact

iv.    AIDS, syphilis, etc. are caused by sexual contact.

Ans.  To reduce the incidence of infectious disease-

i.      Use a handkerchief while coughing and sneezing.

iii. Wash your hand before eating.

vi.    No stagnant water should be kept near school

vii.  Rooms must be ventilated.

Ans. Immunization is the process by which the body attains immunity against diseases and this is done by vaccination.

(i)           For preventing tuberculosis

(ii)        For preventing polio / typhoid / hepatitis – B

(iii)     For preventing tetanus, diptheria, and whooping cough.

   They can keep themselves healthy and avoid sickness by following steps:

(i)           By using a mask to cover nose and mouth.

(ii)        Taking appropriate vaccination.

(iii)     Taking balanced and healthy diet, regular exercise.

(iv)      Washing hands after treating the patients.

 

Q.3  Conduct a survey in your neighbourhood to find out what the three most common disease are. Suggest three steps that could be taken by your local authorities t bring down the incidence of these diseases.

(i)           Malaria

Three steps that should be taken by local authorities to bring down the incidence of these diseases are:

(i)  Use of insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes and removal of breeding places of mosquitoes like stagnant water.

(ii)        Providing proper sanitation facilities.

(iii)     Providing nourished food and vitamins C

 

 

Q.4  A baby is not able to tell her/his caretakers that she/he is sick. What would help us to find out:

        (a)   That the baby is sick

        (b)   What is the sickness?

Ans. (a) The following symptoms would help us to find that the baby is sick-

(i)       The baby is crying.

(ii)    Fever or high temperature

(iii) To find the sickness he must be taken to the doctor. The doctor conducts some tests and from the symptoms, he can find out the sickness.

(iv)      He/she vomits and has diarrhea.

(a)   When she is recovering from malaria

(b)When she has recovered from malaria and is taking care of someone suffering from chickenpox

(c) When she is on a four-day fast after recovering from malaria and taking care of someone suffering from chickenpox. Why?

Ans. (C) The reason is that after suffering from malaria the person becomes anaemic and weak. The immune system also becomes weak and she is on four day fast which also makes her body weak due to improper intake of food. So, her chances to get chickenpox. Above all, she is taking care of someone who is suffering from a contagious disease i.e. chickenpox. She has more chance of getting an infection due to the above-given reasons.

 

Q.6  Under which of the following conditions are you most likely to fall sick?

        (a)   When you are taking examinations.

        (b)   When you have travelled by bus and train for two days.

        (c)   When your friend is suffering from measles. Why?

Ans. (c) It is so because measles is an infectious disease and this can be spread through physical contact.
