NCERT Class 10 Science Activity 2.7 Explanation

In this post, you will find NCERT Class 10 Science Activity 2.7 Explanation in detail. This activity is based on chapter 2 Acids, Bases and Salts of class 10 science.

Activity 2.7 class 10 science

Activity- Take a small amount of copper oxide in a beaker and add dilute hydrochloride acid slowly while stirring.

·      Note the colour of the solution. What has happened to the copper oxide?

Observation- The colour of the solution becomes blue-green and the copper oxide dissolves.

Explanation & Conclusion

The blue-green colour of the solution is due to the formation of copper(II)chloride.

Metal oxide ( here - CuO) reacts with an acid to produce salt and water, this is a neutralisation reaction.

So metal oxides are basic in nature.

2HCI + CuO →CuCI2 + H2O
