Activity 11.11 Class 9 Science Work and Energy

You are suggested to study NCERT activity 11.11 class 9 science chapter 11Work and Energy explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 11.11 class 9 science.

Activity 11.11 Class 9 Science

   ·     Lift an object through a certain height.

   ·     The object can now do work. It begins to fall when released.

   ·     This implies that it has acquired some energy. If raised to a  greater height it can do more work and hence possesses more energy.

   ·     From where did it get the energy? Think and discuss.

Observation of activity 11.11 class 9 science

When an object is lifted to a certain height, its position changes.

Explanation of activity 11.11 class 9 science

When an object is lifted through a certain height, work is done against the gravitational force of the earth.

The work done is stored in the form of gravitational potential energy(mgh).

W=mgh

W= work=?

m = 1kg

g = 10m/s2

h=5m

W= 1×10×5= 50J

When the object is released, it starts falling to the ground, potential energy is converted into kinetic energy and it hits the ground.

Now, the object is lifted to a greater height, this time more gravitational energy is stored in it because more work is done.

W=mgh

W= work= ?

m = 1kg

g = 10m/s2

h= 10 m

W= 1×10×10= 100J

So energy possessed by the object is due to work done against gravity.

Conclusion of activity 11.11 class 9 science

This activity explains that gravitational potential energy is stored in the object due to work done against gravity.
