Activity 11.6 Class 9 Science Work and Energy

You are suggested to study NCERT activity 11.6 class 9 science chapter 11Work and Energy explanation with a conclusion so that you can attempt questions based on activity 11.6 class 9 science.

Activity 11.6 Class 9 Science

   ·     Take a heavy ball. Drop it on a thick bed of sand. A wet bed of sand would be better. Drop the ball on the sand bed from a height of about 25cm. the ball creates a depression.

   ·     Repeat this activity from heights of 50cm,1m, and 1.5m.

   ·     Ensure that all the depressions is distinctly visible.

   ·     Mark the depression to indicate the height from which the ball was dropped.

   ·     Compare their depths.

   ·     Which one of them is deepest?

   ·     Which one is the shallowest? Why?

   ·     What has caused the ball to make a deeper dent?

   ·     Discuss and analyze.

Activity 11.6 Class 9 Science Chapter 11Work and Energy

Observation  of activity 11.6 class 9 science

When a ball is dropped from a height on a wet bed of sand, it creates a deep depression.

We drop the ball form different heighti.e.25cm,50cm,1m and 1.5m.

Now we observe the depths of depression, and we find that the deepest depression is created when the ball is dropped from a height of 1.5m and the shallowest depression is created when the ball is dropped from a height of 25cm.

Explanation of activity 11.6 class 9 science

An object or body possesses potential energy at a certain height. More the height more the potential energy.

When the ball is dropped from a height say ‘h’, its entire potential energy is converted into kinetic energy.

Greater is the potential energy and greater is the kinetic energy.

The ball at a height of 1.5m possesses more potential energy, when it is dropped, its potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. Due to greater kinetic energy, the ball creates the deepest depression.

The ball at a height of 25cm possesses less potential energy, when it is dropped, its potential energy is converted into kinetic energy. Due to lesser kinetic energy, the ball creates the shallowest depression.

Conclusion of activity 11.6 class 9 science

This activity explains that any object that possesses energy can do work.  More the energy more the work is done.
