Activity 11.2 Class 9 Science Chapter 11Work and Energy

Observation and explanation of activity 11.2 class 9 science

In daily life, work is done in many situations. Some of the situations are as follows-

i.              Pushing a box

ii.          Pulling a cart or trolley

iii.       Lifting a book or stone

iv.        Pulling of the cart by a bullock

Now, we can explain that work is done in the situations given above.

Work is done when the following two conditions are satisfied

i.              A force should be applied to the object or body.

ii.          The object or body must be displaced.

i.              Pushing a box- When a force is applied to the box, it got displaced to some distance according to the magnitude of the force. So work is done.

ii.          Pulling a cart or trolley- When we pull a cart, it means a force is applied to it and it got displaced to some distance, so here work is done.

iii.       Lifting a book- When a book is lifted up, a vertical force is applied to it and the position of the book changes(displaced) , so work has been done in this situation.

iv.        Pulling a cart by a bullock-  when a bullock pulls a cart, it means an external force is applied to it and it moves to some distance, so we can say work is done.

now we can easily understand that if force is applied to the object and the object got displaced, then work has been done.
