 Today, we will learn how to change the Present Continuous tense active voice into a passive voice. Through these examples, you will be able to understand the rules for changing the active voice of Present Continuous tense into a passive voice.

     Structure of Active and Passive Voice in Present Continuous Tense


Active Voice


Subject  + is/are/am+  Verb (ing)+ object


Passive Voice


 Object +  is/are/am + being+  past participle (V3)+ by+ subject

 

Rules for changing from Active to passive


1.  Identify the object in the active sentence and make it the subject of the passive sentence.

2.  Use ‘is/are/am’ according to the new subject (object of active voice)

3.  Use ‘being’ and ‘past participle (V3)’.

4.  Write  ‘subject’ in the end of passive after ‘by’ .

5.  Unnecessary ‘subjects’ can be omitted.


Examples Active -Passive

 

      1.                   She is writing a letter.

     P.V. – A letter is being written by her.



     2.                 They are eating apples.

 P.V. – Apples are being eaten by them.



      3.             He is singing a song.

P.V. – A song is being sung by him.



    4.             The teacher is teaching English.

P.V. -English is being taught by the teacher.



      5.              She is cooking food.

P.V. – Food is being cooked by her.



     6.                 We are watching movie.

P.V. – Movie is being watched by us.



     7.                 He is watering the plants.

P.V. – The plants are being watered by him.



     8.                 She is washing the clothes.

P.V. – The clothes are being washed by her.



     9.              They are cleaning the house.

P.V. – The house is being cleaned by them.



   10.                The shopkeeper is selling fruits.

P.V. – Fruits are being sold by the shopkeeper.



   11.            The students are learning the lessons.

P.V. -The lessons are being learnt by the students.



   12.                  He is checking emails.

P.V. – Emails are being checked by him.



   13.                My mother is cooking cake.

P.V. – Cake is being cooked by my mother.



   14.                My father is reading newspaper.

P.V. – Newspaper is being read by my father.



   15.                She is designing a website.

P.V. – A website is being designed by her.



   16.                The farmer is growing crops.

P.V. – Crops are being grown by the farmer.



   17.                The dog is chasing the cat.

P.V. – The cat is being chased by the dog.



   18.                She is decorating the room.

P.V. – The room is being decorated by her.



   19.                He is solving puzzles.

P.V. – Puzzles are being solved by him.



   20.                They are playing football.

P.V. – Football is being played by them.


 

   21.                I am writing a letter.

P.V. – A letter is being written by me.



    22.                John is writing an email.

P.V. – An email is being written by John.


 

    23.               The children are flying kites.

P.V. – Kites are being flown by the children.



    24.               The mechanic is fixing the engine.

P.V. – The engine is being fixed by the mechanic.



    25.          The chef is preparing the food.

P.V. – The food is being prepared by the chef.
