Past Continuous Tense Passive Voice Exercises with Answers

In this post, we will learn how to change the  Past Continuous Tense active voice into a passive voice. Through these examples, you will be able to understand the rules for changing the active voice of the Past Continuous Tense into a passive voice.

Active Voice


Subject +was/were +  verb (ing )+ object


Passive Voice


 Object +  was/were + being past participle (V3)+ by+ subject

 

Rules for changing from Active to passive


1.  Identify the object in the active sentence and make it the subject of the passive sentence.

2.  Use ‘was/were’ according to the new subject (object of active voice)

3.  Use ‘being’ and ‘past participle (V3)’.

4.  Write the 'subject' in the end of passive after ‘by’ .

5.  Unnecessary subjects can be omitted.


Examples Active -Passive


       1.          She was writing a letter.

    P.V. – A letter was being written by her.


        2.       They were eating apples.

P.V. – Apples were being eaten by them.


       3.         He was singing a song.

P.V. – A song was being sung by him.


      4.        The teacher was teaching English.

P.V. -English was being taught by the teacher.


       5.          She was cooking food.

P.V. – Food was being cooked by her.


       6.         We were watching movie.

P.V. – Movie was being watched by us.


       7.         He was watering the plants.

P.V. – The plants were being watered by him.


       8.          She was washing the clothes.

P.V. – The clothes were being washed by her.


       9.           They were cleaning the house.

P.V. – The house was being cleaned by them.


   10.                The shopkeeper was selling fruits.

P.V. – Fruits were being sold by the shopkeeper.


   11.             The students were learning the lessons.

P.V. -The lessons were being learnt by the students.


    12.              He was checking emails.

P.V. – Emails were being checked by him.


    13.               My mother was cooking cake.

P.V. – Cake was being cooked by my mother.


    14.              My father was reading newspaper.

P.V. – Newspaper was being read by my father.


    15.              She was designing a website.

P.V. – A website was being designed by her.


    16.              The farmer was growing crops.

P.V. – Crops were being grown by the farmer.


    17.              The dog was chasing the cat.

P.V. – The cat was being chased by the dog.


    18.                She was decorating the room.

P.V. – The room was being decorated by her.


    19.                He was solving puzzles.

P.V. – Puzzles were being solved by him.


    20.                They were playing football.

P.V. – Football was being played by them.

 

    21.                I was writing a letter.

P.V. – A letter was being written by me.


    22.                John was writing an email.

P.V. – An email was being written by John.

 

    23.                The children were flying kites.

P.V. – Kites were being flown by the children.


    24.                The mechanic was fixing the engine.

P.V. – The engine was being fixed by the mechanic.


    25.                The chef was preparing the food.

P.V. – The food was being prepared by the chef.
