In this activity, we will compare the effect of moving up a staircase slowly and quickly and find the relation between work, time, and power.
NIOS Class 10 Science and Technology (212)
Project File
This activity is based on the NIOS Class 10 science
and technology (212) Chapter 13- Work and Energy, Module 4.
Aim
To understand the relation between work, time, and power
Procedure
We climb the staircase slowly at normal walking speed
and reach a particular height.
After taking some rest, we will repeat this activity, but this time we will run fast to climb the same height.
Observation
We feel tired when climbing the staircase by running
fast.
Explanation
The work done in both cases is equal. The rate of
doing work is called power. When we run, the work is done in a shorter time, so more
power is spent, which causes tiredness.
Conclusion
This activity shows that the power depends on the work done
as well as the time taken.
