To study the Home Science Syllabus and identify:

i.     Areas that interest the student

ii.    Career options available in the syllabus

Materials Required

   1.  Home science textbook or syllabus

   2. Notebook

   3. Pen or pencil

Procedure

We carefully read the Home Science syllabus given at the end of the book and note the major areas such as food and nutrition, health, clothing, resources, human development, etc.

We select one area that interests us the most and find out different vocations related to that area. Now we make a list of three vocations and write a short description of each.

Observation

The area of Home Science that interests us is “ Food & Nutrition”.

Why do we choose this area?

 We are interested in food, cooking, and maintaining good health. We like learning how to prepare nutritious meals and how diet affects our bodies.

Vocations related to Food and Nutrition

    1. Dietitian/Nutritionist: - A dietitian plans healthy diets for people according to their age, health, and lifestyle. They work in hospitals, fitness centres, school and wellness clinics.

   2. Food Product Developer: - A food product developer works in food companies to create new food items, improve taste, and increase nutritional value. They ensure food safety and quality.

   3. Catering Manager: - A catering manager plans and manages food services for events, hotels, or institutions. They handle menu planning, budgeting, food preparation, and hygiene.

Explanation

 The Home Science syllabus covers many useful areas such as food and nutrition, health, clothing and textiles, resources management, human development, and consumer education.

 Each area provides various vocational opportunities.
