In this activity, we will make a scrapbook of pictures of animals and plants from old calendars.
Classification of Living Organisms Activity Solution
This activity is based on the NIOS Class 10 science
and technology (212) Chapter 19- Classification of Living Organisms Module 5-
The Living World
Aim
To collect pictures of birds and wild animals from old
calendars and prepare a scrapbook.
Materials Required
1. Old calendars with pictures of birds and wild
animals
2. A4/A3
sheets or a scrapbook
3. Scissors
4. Glue
5. Pen
Procedure
We collect old calendars from home, neighbours or the school library that have pictures of birds and wild animals. We cut them using scissors and sort them into groups: Birds, Mammals, Reptiles, etc.
Now we paste these pictures in a scrapbook or a sheet and write the name of the bird or animal, habitat, and food type.
Observation &
Explanation
We observe that:
1. Animals and birds vary in size.
2. They
have different feeding habits. Some are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
3. Their
mode of reproduction is also different. Some give birth to young ones, and some
lay eggs.
4. Their
body functions and adaptations depend on their environment in which they live.
Conclusion
This activity explains that living organisms show great
diversity in body structure, feeding habits, reproduction and adaptation. So, we
can understand how they survive in different environments.
