NIOS Class 10 Science Activity 21.2 Building Blocks of Life- Cell and Tissues

In this activity, we compare and differentiate Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic cells on the basis of the given diagrams.

Building Blocks of Life- Cell and Tissues Activity Solution

This activity is based on the NIOS Class 10 science and technology (212) Chapter 21- Building Blocks of Life- Cell and Tissues Module 5- The Living World.

Aim

 To study the diagram of two cells and label them as prokaryotic and eukaryotic

Materials Provided

Diagrams of two types of cells

Procedure

First, we will observe both the diagrams and check for the presence of the nucleus and other organelles.

nios class 10 science activity 21.2 explanation

Now we compare both cell diagrams with the known features of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and label each diagram correctly.

Observation

When we observe the first diagram, we find a well-defined nucleus and mitochondria.ER, Golgi bodies, etc., and the cytoplasm are present inside a cell membrane.

When we observe the second diagram, we find a nucleoid-like region, and there are no membrane-bound organelles.

Explanation

We can easily understand the basic difference between Eukaryotic and Prokaryotic Cells.

 Pro = Before

Karyon = Nucleus

Eu -True

Karyon – Nucleus

Feature

Eukaryotic cell

Prokaryotic cell

Nucleus

True nucleus is present

Absent

Organelles

ER, mitochondria,   and other cell organelles are present

Absent

Example

Plant and animal cells

Bacterial cell

Conclusion

We can conclude from the given diagrams that the first cell is identified as an eukaryotic cell and the second cell is a prokaryotic cell on the basis of their features.
