In this activity, we will make a three-dimensional model of a plant cell or an animal cell using easily available materials.
Building Blocks of Life- Cell and Tissues Activity
Solution
This activity is based on the NIOS Class 10 science
and technology (212) Chapter 21- Building Blocks of Life- Cell and Tissues Module
5- The Living World.
Aim
To prepare a model of a plant cell or an animal cell
Materials Required
1. Thermocol sheet / thick cardboard
2. Coloured
wool
3. Bindis
of different sizes and colours
4. Cotton
5. Straws
6. Clay
7. Glue
8. Marker
Procedure
We take a thermocol sheet or cardboard as the base of
the model. Now we use insulation wires or wool to make an oval or circular
outline to represent the cell membrane.
We make a smaller circle to represent the nucleus and fill
the inner space with cotton to represent the cytoplasm.
We use bindis or clay to show different organelles
like mitochondria, ribosomes and Golgi body, etc.
In a plant cell, we will make the cell wall, chloroplast and a large vacuole. Now we will label all parts with a marker.
Result
A well-labelled
and clear colourful model of a plant or animal cell is prepared.
Conclusion
This activity helps in understanding the cell structure
and functions of cell organelles. We can easily identify various cell
organelles and understand the difference between plant and animal cells
